Crap

Don't worry, this is not a take-off of Matt's peeing post. I am just annoyed, because I wrote a really good, somewhat thought-provoking post last night and then I had a lot of problems with it and it didn't post. I was too angry and tired to bother to re-write it, plus my 5 minutes of genius was gone. So you all get this crap instead.
I had a race today, and I actually did well. I didn't break 30 minutes, which is my goal, but I got a pr with 30:03, so I'm really really close. And unfortunately, I may not be able to volunteer, for the first time in I think 4 years, for my mom's lockin. This is because I might actually be in the top 10 runners for regionals, which is that Saturday, but since it's in Iowa we leave Friday. I'm not actually good enough to be #10, I think I'm actually 11, but at least one girl can't go so I'm automatically next in line. This sucks. At least I get it easy-if I'm runner #10, I won't have to run, because only 7 or 8 girls actually run (I think) and the others just go as alternates. That would be very nice.
Tomorrow I get to go to the Mall of America (not like I have money to spend, but oh well) and see Just Like Heaven. Very excited for that. Not excited for the paper I have to write before I do that. Well, sadly, even though it's only 10:30 on a Friday, I'm going to bed because I'm tired.

Triple

Just wanted to say that our quad makes a great triple. Unfortunately, the roommate who moved out took all our furniture. Hopefully we can find something to sit on soon! She also took some other things, a few of which didn't actually belong to her. (just post it notes, and a movie that she gave to rachel as a gift last year) Needless to say, my other roomies aren't happy about that. Our room is a great triple though-hope they don't move someone else in here!

Major Changes

I thought I should update my blog. I don't really have a lot to say, at least not that people would be interested in. I started work a few days ago, I'm calling alumnae again, asking for money. I only get 6 hours a week doing that though, which is why I asked my boss if she had any work I could do during the day. That's how I ended up calling DupliKates. Yes, that's right, we have our own word for the students at St. Kate's who have had a mother, aunt, grandparent, sister, or cousin who have also attended the school. And not only do they get to go to this luncheon in a few weeks, they also get a special scholarship. And I got to call them all and tell them to RSVP to this luncheon. What a blast. Oh well, at least I got a couple of hours out of it, I really need the money. Doesn't it just seem like there is always something you have to buy? This week/month it's medicine (which unfortunately I have to buy again now that I'm not living at home with my parents there to buy it for me. Well, I guess now I know what the price of independence is. $7.), birthday presents for Anna, Melinda, and Jephtha since we're celebrating all 3 birthdays on the same day, and other things that I can't seem to remember. Although, I have to say, despite having to pay for everything while I'm at school, I really love my independence. And this year more than ever I think. Last year I was just getting my footing, getting used to being on my own and making new friends and figuring out school and the college and the city, but this year is different. I'm asserting my independence in the classroom, in my dorm room, and in my relationships with people. I think I'm really starting to grow more as an individual. I really like most of my classes too, which I think helps because it makes me want to do well, so I try harder, participate more, think harder, and learn more. Which brings me to something I've been thinking about-my major. I know I'm going to major in theology, I already have an advisor for that, who I had as a professor last year and he is excellent. However, I am not going to do a theology major on its own. It is almost too easy to do that, and I want more of a challenge. Which is why I have been thinking about double-majoring in theology and philosophy. Let me guess the reactions to that-a large, collective groan from almost everybody, and probably a cheer from my mother and of course, Matt. I haven't decided anything for sure, I still want to talk to my Ethics professor, but it seems like mostly a good idea, except I don't know what I want to do with it. But I can always figure that out later, right?

Life Update and some Thoughts

Tonight my roommates and I sat down and had a discussion about certain activities that went on this past weekend that I unfortunately was a brief witness to. Thankfully, the final decision that was reached was that there would be no such activities allowed in the room. I am very proud of myself for speaking my mind so confidently and strongly. I do feel that it is going to be somewhat of a dividing issue, and I think it is somewhat funny or ironic that the level of agreement with my opinion that such activities do not belong in the room at all decreases from me to the roommate who participated in this activity. We are on complete opposite sides of the spectrum, my roommate from last year is more on my side of the argument but more or less respects how I feel about it and doesn't want to cause conflict because of it, and the other roommate sees both sides of the situation and somewhat agrees with both. At least it is resolved and I hope (but am very wary) that we have no more situations like this.
On a similar note, I am surprised at the lack of morals I see in my roommates and in other people at my school and in the world. This may mean that I am naive, or just that I am an optimistic, trusting person. I try not to be cynical, and I am a very hopeful person, but it is highly disappointing how often I see people treat things such as sex, relationships, God, and other important matters so carelessly and selfishly. However, this surprise is twofold-it is not just because of my naivete that I am surprised, it is also due to the fact that I have seen and heard many people preach morals and claim to have high values and strong morals, yet they have premarital sex, they lie, they show no regard for anybody else's opinions, beliefs, or values, and completely ignore things that I have always learned to be moral and good. Now, there are two ways to look at this-either what I have learned as morals are wrong, or people are lying to themselves about what is right. This may be egotistical of me, but I would judge my morals as mainly correct (but possibly flawed in some ways, due to the fact that I am a human being, and humans cannot help but make mistakes). They are based in faith, logic, and truth. I would like to hear other thoughts on this matter; I hope I clearly expressed all of my thoughts. I understand I am probably cutting this somewhat short by not explaining all of my values and how I came to learn them/believe in them, but I am out of time and patience.

How Awkward

Walking in on your roommate having sex is really not a pleasant experience. In fact, it is completely awkward and unfun. It's almost like one of Matt's movie moments, except whereas he gets all the good ones, comparable to comedies, romances, dramas, etc., I'm stuck with moments that should be in adult rated features or horror movies.

Stupidity

Sometimes I think I am smart. Then I go to class.

First day of classes

Today was my first day of classes, as the post title says. They all seem like they'll be ok. I have intro to sociology, ethics, old testament studies, and new testament studies. I also have cross country, and next week I start working again, which is actually good because then I'll be making money! I will be very busy however, but for the most part I'm very excited for my classes and this semester.

cross country

This week was my first real week of cross country camp. Monday-Wednesday we had 7am pool practices which pretty much consists of running in water, loads of fun. In the afternoon we had running practices and core training, which is pretty much pushups, situps, and these things called human arrows and dead bugs. Again, loads of fun. Thursday we had a 4k time trial (that's 2 1/2 miles for those of you who don't know) and in the afternoon we had relays in the pool, which sounds like a break but truthfully was a really hard workout because we were all stupid and competitive, and besides it was a hard workout. Then after that we had to do our stupid dumbbell matrix for lifting, which wasn't horrible, until today when we had to do it again. Yesterday we ran in the morning, and then again in the afternoon. Then today we ran a long run and like I said, did the lifting routine, which really hurt. As you can imagine, I have been extremely sore all week. On the bright side, my team is really fun, and one of my good friends here at school is running too. It should be a good season, even though Monday we have to get up at 6:30 to do mile repeats. Yuck. I've also been on my own the whole week-none of my roommates are here, and it gets boring after about 3 minutes. Thankfully, Megan comes back tomorrow, and Jes and Rachel will be here on Monday. Then I get to live with 3 other people in what seems like a big area when it's just me, but with four girls it will be tight. I certainly hope we can all live together without anybody dying!
